TERRACE (ROW HOUSES) - Physical Description 1
Although in the vein of 19th century row houses, these have Queen Anne styled accessories such as trussed roof gables, terracotta ridge detail, turned verandah columns and plain red brickwork to walls and chimneys. Castiron patterns are contemporary as is the bullnose verandah roof profile and refinements to the standard iron fence picket differentiate them from the typical 19th century types. The row appears to be still in one ownership. A major enhancement to this row is its hillside siting which allows each house individual expression within the row, by the stepped roof lines and the succession of gables is made more picturesque by the sequential elevation of each. Comparison may be made with rows at 430-4 Dryburgh Street and 162-156 Errol Street, North Melbourne.
Generally original; recent renovation of rear yards is sympathetic.
