Statement of Significance
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
The house at 9 Seaview Parade, although significantly altered by the addition of the second storey, is aesthetically significant at a LOCAL level. It demonstrates original design qualities of the Edwardian style which include the asymmetrical facade and recessed hipped and projecting gable roof forms. Other intact qualities include the weatherboard wall cladding, tall brick chimney with terra cotta pot, timber framed casement windows in a bank of three under the verandah, front timber door and sidelight, verandah form, decorative gable infill, window hood, and possibly the verandah balustrading and fretwork. The house also makes a contribution to the predominantly single storey residential streetscape.
The house at 9 Seaview Parade is historically significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with the subdivision of part of Alexander Thomson's "Kardinia" farm into the Kardinia Extended Estate, Section 4.
Overall, the house at 9 Seaview Parade is of LOCAL significance.

Residence - Physical Description 1
DESCRIPTION
The site at 9 Seaview Parade has visual connections with the flowering gum tree-lined streetscape and to the park at the north end of the street. This house is set in a streetscape formed by single storey brick and timber homes of varying styles and periods. There are some Edwardian and interwar Bungalow houses dotted throughout. The house has typical front and side setbacks. These setbacks are shown on the 1927 GWST Plan of Drainage.4 The site is bound at the front by a timber picket fence, approximately 1400mm high.
This altered, double storey, double fronted and asymmetrical weatherboard Edwardian house is characterised by a recessed hipped roof and projecting gable roof forms, together with a recent second storey hipped and gabled addition. The roofs are clad in corrugated galvanised iron. A tall brick and corbelled chimney with a terra cotta pot adorns the southern part of the roofline. Early timber framed casement windows, in banks of threes, are located under the verandah on the front facade. A bay window (under the projecting gable) is probably a later addition, for it does not appear on the 1927 GWST Plan of Drainage.4 The timber panel front door and sidelights may also be original.
The house is also characterised by the front verandah under the projecting roofline of the main hip. It is supported by recent? plain, paired timber columns with early? triplet timber balusters between.
Early decorative features include the decorative timber and stucco gable infill and window leadlighting under the verandah. The verandah balustrading and fretwork valance appear to be recent, although are appropriate (and may be replicas of the original detailing).
