Why is it significant? The hotel is historically significant because it served as an early hotel, store and a staging post for Cobb and Co coaches bound for the Caledonian goldfields (near St Andrews) and the Woods Point gold mine, some 80 kilometres to the east of Warburton (Criterion A). Also because it is associated with Edward Weller, who was also connected with the Kangaroo Ground general store and post office, and Gordon Cameron, who was related to the parliamentarian Ewan Cameron, of Pigeon Bank (HO102) (Criterion H). It has served as a local landmark for almost 140 years (Criterion E & G).
