Statement of Significance
The house, constructed c.1890, at 273 Union Street, Brunswick West.
How is it significant?
The house at 273 Union Street, Brunswick West is of local historic significance to the City of Moreland.
Why is it significant?
Of historic significance, as one of the early houses constructed in the western extremity of Union Street, which demonstrates the early development of this area associated with the land boom. (AHC Criterion A.4)
The building is also of note as one of the few remaining examples of a double storey mansion house in Brunswick.

HOUSE - Physical Description 1
Recently restored, the house at 273 Union Street, West Brunswick is a two storey asymmetrical Victorian Italianate painted rendered mansion with a hipped slate roof. The house is in a prominent location sited high on Union Street, where it curves round to accommodate the Moonee Ponds Creek. Features include: cast iron lacework to the verandah and balcony, including cast iron lace brackets and balustrade (balcony only); paired brackets under the eave line; stained glass side and highlights to the front door; tripartite double hung sash windows to the front facade, with a larger window flanked by narrow ones; segmental arched openings (double hung sash windows) to al window openings; and moulded stringcourses between the floors.
