Statement of Significance
Elizabeth House epitomizes nineteenth century terrace house architecture. Its typical planning is enhanced by the wide site which facilitates generous internal spaces and many architectural refinements (including the centring of the window to the second of the ground floor reception rooms). The high quality of the finishes and fittings throughout is a notable feature. The facade with its ascending series of bearded-head mouldings and the elaborate parapet exhibits the flamboyance of the boom era.
The house is an interesting example of the work of Norman Hitchcock and an essential feature of the Royal Parade streetscape and the South Parkville precinct.
