Statement of Significance
Cora Lyn is of historic significance at a regional level, reflecting the popularity of Lorne as a leisure and tourism destination in the early part of this century. Guest houses were common in this area until the 1960s, when the ascendance of the motel led to a decline in their popularity, but are now a relatively rare building type. The building is architecturally significant at a regional level as a substantially intact example of a guest house. Though conservative in style, its physical form is strongly evocative of its former use. There is some conjecture about the purpose of the rooms under the verandah: these may have been staff accommodation, or perhaps simple, more inexpensive rooms for "blue collar" guests and itinerant workers and fishermen. Whatever their purpose, these rooms are noteworthy because they indicate that the building was an accommodation house, rather than a substantial private dewlling.
