Statement of Significance
The house at no. 1 Grosvenor Street, Moonee Ponds, was built between 1877 and 1879 when it was occupied by Dr James Anderson. It is historically and aesthetically important. It is historically important (Criterion A) as a substantial house recalling the first phase in the settlement of Moonee Ponds as a suburb of the metropolis. It is aesthetically important (Criterion E) as an example of a common villa form given distinction by its highly ornamental polychrome brickwork giving emphasis to the principal openings and external corners by means of elaborate quoining and having a patterned string course, bi-chrome eaves and lozenge shaped decorations.

HOUSE - Physical Description 1
A substantial two storeyed asymmetrical mid Victorian villa with hipped slate roof, cast iron lace verandah and highly ornamental polychrome brickwork,using reds and whites to relieve the dark body bricks. The windows are especially accentuated by the decorative use of white bricks and by isolated white and red brick patterns.
Condition: Sound. Integrity: High, later substantial additions at rear.
