STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
Built on land originally sold by the Crown to N Thornley in 1866, this house dates from about 1910. It has local historic and architectural significance as one of the more distinctive Federation style house in Hamilton. It is particularly noteworthy for its tower which maximises the location of the house on the hill. It is a foil for tSt mary's, the church opposite. The detailing and materials of the house are also interesting, including the slate roof of the tower and the leadlighting of the typpical casement windows.
The house is significantly intact and is in good condition. It is an important contributor to the streetscape and a key building in this area.
