Statement of Significance
The house, constructed c.1914, at 87 Garnet Street, Brunswick.
How is it significant?
The house at 87 Garnet Street, Brunswick is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Moreland.
Why is it significant?
Of historic significance as the first house constructed in Garnet Street, some 15 years after the first release of land in the street for housing, which illustrates the severe impact of the 1890s depression on development in this area. (AHC Criterion A.4)
Of aesthetic significance as a good example of Edwardian domestic architecture which is unusual in that its verandah directly addresses its corner site. (AHC Criteria D.2 & E.1)

HOUSE - Physical Description 1
The house at 87 Garnet Street, Brunswick is a painted timber Edwardian single storey house on a triangular block of land. It has a corrugated galvanised steel roof, with half-timbered gable ends to the roof and verandah, and a painted brick chimney(s?). The house is made notable by its return verandah which is orientated into the corner of the site and features a timber frieze and balustrade with carved timber posts. Windows are casements. The house appears to have been freshly painted (white).
The garden is overgrown garden with a number of mature trees at both the front and rear of the block.HOUSE - Physical Conditions
