House, Newall Street, MARNOO - Physical Description 1
The house in Newall Street, Marnoo, has visual connections with other predominantly single storey, horizontal weatherboard residential buildings with pitched galvanised corrugated iron roofs. This building is generally in accord with the form, construction and setbacks of the significant places visually connected to it. It is set on averaged sized allotment for the area with a sizeable front setback and narrow side setbacks (and a gravelled driveway along one side). There is a rudimentary front garden that consists of a grassed area, and some perimeter plantings. The Victorian style of the house suggests that it was constructed in the late 19th or early 20th century.
The single storey, horizontal weatherboard, Late Victorian styled house is characterised by a hipped roof form, together with an altered hipped bullnosed verandah that projects towards the street frontage. These roof forms are clad in galvanised corrugated iron (with the cladding of the house overpainted dark grey). There is no evidence of an early brick chimney which suggests that the house may have been relocated to this site. Narrow overhangs are features of the eaves.
The symmetry of the main house is accentuated by the early central timber framed doorway with transom. It is flanked by early timber framed double hung windows. The front verandah has been extended and is supported by introduced turned timber columns. An introduced infill space that is clad in horizontal weatherboards with a single doorway and timber framed double hung window is situated under the verandah at the front. There are also other early timber framed double hung windows at the sides. Other alterations to the house appear to be at the rear, and include a skillion extension with a bank of timber framed windows, and an aluminium framed window at the side.
