House, Newall Street, MARNOO - Physical Description 1
The house in Newall Street, Marnoo, is set on an average sized residential allotment for the area. The front is largely an open grassed area featuring a deciduous tree. The asymmetrical, single storey, horizontal timber weatherboard, Late Victorian styled house is characterised by a recessed hipped roof form, together with a gable roof and skillion verandah that project towards the street frontage. These roof forms are clad in galvanised corrugated iron. An early although possibly introduced painted brick chimney adorns the roofline at the side, and may suggest that the house has been relocated to this site. Narrow overhangs with paired timber brackets and patera between are features of the eaves. Another feature of the design is the front verandah. It is supported by introduced turned timber columns and has a recent timber floor. Other early features of the design include the timber framed front doorway, together with the sidelight and highlight. The front aluminium framed windows have been introduced, but the side timber framed double hung windows towards the rear appear to be early.
