House, Newall Street, MARNOO - Physical Description 1
The house in Newall Street, Marnoo, has visual connections with other predominantly single storey, horizontal weatherboard residential buildings with pitched galvanised corrugated iron roofs. This building is generally in accord with the form, construction and setbacks of the significant places visually connected to it. It is set on averaged sized allotment for the area with a sizeable front setback and narrow side setbacks. There is a rudimentary front garden that consists of a grassed area, and some perimeter plantings. The Edwardian style of the house suggests that it was constructed in the early 20th century.
The asymmetrical, single storey, double fronted, horizontal weatherboard, Edwardian styled house is characterised by a recessed and steeply pitched hipped roof form, together with a minor gable and a hipped verandah that project towards the street frontage. These roof forms are clad in lapped and overpainted dark red galvanised corrugated iron. Two unpainted red brick chimneys with multi-corbelled tops adorn the roofline at one side. Narrow overhangs with exposed timber rafters are features of the eaves.
At the front under the verandah is an early timber framed doorway with an early timber framed sidelight and transom. The timber framed double hung windows are also early, as is possibly the window hood under the front gable that is supported by timber fretwork brackets. The front verandah is supported by introduced turned timber columns. At the rear of the house is an introduced skillion addition clad in horizontal weatherboards.
