House, Newall Street, MARNOO - Physical Description 1
The house in Newall Street, Marnoo, has visual connections with other predominantly single storey, horizontal weatherboard residential buildings with pitched galvanised corrugated iron roofs. This building is generally in accord with the form, construction and setbacks of the significant places visually connected to it. It is set on averaged sized allotment for the area and has a large front setback that consists of grassed areas, a recent rose garden bound by bluestone blocks, and pruned shrubs. There is a gravelled driveway along one side. The Victorian style of the house suggests that it was constructed in the late 19th or early 20th century. The single storey, horizontal weatherboard, Late Victorian styled house is characterised by a hipped roof form, together with a rear gable that projects at the side, and a return bullnosed verandah. These roof forms are clad in galvanised corrugated iron. The house lacks an early brick chimney which suggests that it has been relocated to this site. Narrow overhangs are features of the eaves.
The symmetrical nature of the hipped roof section is accentuated by the central timber framed doorway with early four panelled timber door and sidelights and highlights. It is flanked by early timber framed double hung windows. The projecting rectangular units under the front verandah have been introduced, as has the timber infill and horizontal timber framed windows under the verandah at the side.
