Statement of Significance
Architecturally, a large near complete variation (gabled) on the typical 19th century asymmetrical suburban form with uncommon details (valence) and reinforced by a contemporary streetscape, built up by the same building society: of regional interest and local importance.
Historically, a large example of speculative building by financing societies in Essendon: of local importance

HOUSE - Physical Description 1
A asymmetrically planned, two-storey coloured brick house, with a two-level cast-iron, verandah, a hipped main roof and a gabled, asymmetrical bay, with a fretted valence. Segment-arched and flat-beaded windows are picked out in the Italian Lombardic manner, with contrasting brickwork, whilst an unusual arch segment pattern crosses the two upper windows as a continuation of the impost string-course.
Generally original except for the roof ridge line and removal of a (presumed) timber picket fence; the trim colours are sympathetic. A major contributor to the Chaucer Street streetscape.
